Student life
Edinburgh and Glasgow both have large international student populations, historic city centres, and active student unions. Scotland is generally regarded as safe and welcoming, with mosques, prayer rooms, and halal food available in the main cities. Winters are darker and colder than in the south of England, which is worth planning for.
Cost of living
Edinburgh is the most expensive Scottish city but still below London. Accommodation typically ranges from around £150 to £250 per week in Edinburgh and less in Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Dundee, with total monthly living costs commonly between £1,000 and £1,350.
Getting around
Trains reach London in around 4.5 hours, and Edinburgh and Glasgow airports offer European and connecting flights to the Gulf, usually via London, Doha, or Dubai. Cities are compact and well served by buses and trams.
