Studying in Belfast & Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom, with Belfast as its capital and main university city. It suits students who want established universities, one of the lowest costs of living of any UK study region, and a compact, friendly city that is easy to settle into.
Student life
Belfast is a lively, walkable student city with a growing international community. Its Muslim community is smaller than in the largest English cities, but Belfast has mosques and Islamic centres, and halal food is available. Coast and countryside are within easy reach.
Cost of living
Northern Ireland is generally one of the most affordable UK study regions, particularly for accommodation. The UK visa maintenance requirement is the lower, outside-London amount. We discuss realistic budgets individually during consultation.
Getting around
Belfast has two airports with direct flights to London and other UK cities, rail and bus links across Northern Ireland, and a direct train to Dublin. Ferries connect to Scotland and England.
Types of institutions
A small number of established universities, including research-intensive provision, alongside further education colleges. Degrees follow the same UK framework and visa route as the rest of the country.

How we recommend institutions
We do not publish or endorse lists of named universities. Specific institution recommendations are made individually during consultation, based on your academic profile, your preferred region and, where it applies, the approved list for your sponsorship in the intake year.
